Gastrointestinal Associates

The design of Gastrointestinal Associates focuses on patient wellness while showcasing sustainable design practices.

The design breaks from the context of existing medical offices nearby. Instead, the building sits in the landscape as a sculptural expression — from the prominent glazing to the detailed brick façade. Interiors were designed around access to natural light and views. A soothing, modern palette of blue and green is reflective of the surrounding natural beauty, include a sedate healing garden adjacent to the 10-bay infusion area.

Materials were sourced regionally, within 500 miles, and contain high recycled content, low VOCs, and no red-listed harmful chemicals. Window glazing preserves sunlight and views while preventing energy transfer. Using an extensive array of 290-watt solar panels, GIA offsets a significant portion of its energy consumption. Coupled with a dynamic framing strategy to minimize heat transfer and the use of continuous insulation, this building has better energy efficiency than traditional medical office buildings.
