University Orthopaedic Institute

The characteristic design of UT Medical Center's Orthopaedic Institute is oriented around shared iconic details with the hospital campus across Alcoa Highway — including the three-story oval rotunda.

Meanwhile, neutral brick respects the surrounding natural environment and the context of the site, within the University of Tennessee Research Park at Cherokee Farm. Metal accents and glass are contemporary elements that reveal natural views to the Tennessee River and screen interiors from the highway.

Inside, the interior design is clean and uncomplicated, embellished with warm wood accents and touches of biophilia in the live plants in the waiting rooms and lobbies. The building incorporates state-of-the-art technologies like Indigo Clean, a visible light disinfection device that kills bacteria in the air and on surfaces, which is used in the building’s operating rooms.

The three-story medical office building houses an ambulatory surgery center, physical therapy suite, exam rooms, surgical suite, and administrative offices and support spaces.
