Hyatt Regency
Barber McMurry designed the unique, angular Hyatt Regency in 1972.
The trapezoidal brutalist design, completed in partnership with frequent collaborator David Liberman, is one of the most dominant structures in Knoxville's skyline. The construction is poured concrete, and when it was initially completed, everything within the building was Aztec themed.
The Hyatt closed in 2020 and has since been adapted into a residential complex.
