Liberty Place Veteran Housing

Liberty Place is a thoughtfully planned 32-unit apartment building providing permanent supportive housing for military veterans, with a design that enhances a sense of community.

Outdoor spaces are integral to the design. A generous 10-foot-wide patio shared porch space serves as external living space for residents while providing opportunities for interaction. A picnic pavilion and flagpole plaza serve as focal points for gathering and reflection. Indoors, the same welcoming environment is encouraged through shared amenities, including a lounge, exercise room, and meeting space.

For veterans, universal accessibility was a key consideration, with all units designed for easy conversion to fully accessible accommodations, and select units built with accessibility features from the outset. Meanwhile, private laundry rooms support independent living.

Stewardship and energy efficiency was central to the project’s vision. In partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Liberty Place features a rooftop photovoltaic array that helps reduce energy consumption and operational costs. Permeable paving in parking areas helps with stormwater management. LED lights and energy-efficient appliances are utilized throughout. Liberty Place was developed in partnership with Knoxville's Community Development Corporation and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
