LEAN-2

Developed for Park(ing) Day 2024, the LEAN-2's design capitalizes on material availability in the digital age.

Leveraging off-the-shelf construction materials and accessible additive manufacturing technologies, the LEAN-2 provides a basic kit-of-parts for simple, yet endlessly flexible shelters. 3/4" metal conduit, shading fabric, plywood, and basic fasteners are readily available at local hardware stores. With increasingly affordable and available 3D printers, more schools, libraries, and private users have access to systems of prototyping and production. Using common materials and 3D-printed connections, the LEAN-2 combines material simplicity and plug-and-play sensibility into a bundle of possibilities: bus stops, park benches, and even temporary shelters.
